Trillium Brewing Co. Mettle Double IPA, Boston, MA
8.4% abv. Pours orangish gold with a thin white head. Great Belgian lace. Peach, apricot, grapefruit and pineapple aromas smack you right in the face. This beer just plain smells amazing. First sip is fresh hops and no alcohol at all and that is scary with such a high abv. So fresh tasting and thirst quenching. I swear it tastes like summertime in New England. Some spicy, white peppery bite at finish which feels like a combination of the hops and the alcohol. Hops dominate, but the slightest caramel and rye malt flavors help balance it. The hop bitterness never overwhelms, this is a thoroughly enjoyable beer. Super juicy, but with a slightly dry finish. I will be honest, this beer is fantastic and you should definitely try it, but the price will certainly keep me from buying it again.
