Foley Brothers Brewing, Skeleton Crew Imperial India Pale Ale, Brandon, VT
A gift from my friend and colleague Bridget Devlin. 8.5% abv. A whopping 100 IBU. Pours an unfiltered gold color with a fluffy white head that slowly dissipates. Fantastic Belgian lacing all around the glass. Lemon candy, pine, and orange rind on the nose with a touch of fresh cut grass. Papaya, mango, and pineapple juice flavors on first sip. Touches of floral and herbal spiciness as you move through it, but mostly juicy hop flavor. Dried apricot at finish with the slightest white pepper flavor from the relatively high alcohol content. Dry cracker and caramel malt flavors help balance it, but it is really all hops.No real alcohol esters at all, medium bodied, smooth and thoroughly drinkable. A very enjoyable Imperial IPA.

9% abv. Many thanks to my brother Tim for this perfect Christmas gift. Brewed with hops and barley grown in Vermont and Maine. One of the best smelling beers I have had in a long time. Grapefruit aroma just about jumps out of the bottle. Even my wife who hates beer turned to me and said “wow, that really smells like grapefruit.” Hop oil slickness. This one goes down smoothly and way too fast. Some astringency…it seems to get a bit drier with each sip. Grapefruit, pine, tropical fruit, and orange zest hop flavors with some floral notes. Hops tingle the tip of the tongue and gums. Wow does this get drier with each sip. The slight astringency and really juicy fruit flavors are interesting, especially since I am picking up a vegetive green onion or cilantro aroma toward the end of the bottle. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. My only disappointment is that the bottled on date was left blank…although I have to assume it is pretty fresh. Sadly only my first beer from Foley Brothers, but I will certainly seek out more of their offerings.
